Woman to face charges in Mass. hit-run that injured 11-year-old girl

A 62-year-old woman is expected to face charges in connection with a weekend hit-and-run crash that injured an 11-year-old girl in East Bridgewater, authorities said.

The girl was hit by a car around 5:30 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 15. while riding her bicycle on a small path that leads from Route 18 to the back parking lot of Central Elementary School near 143 Bedford St., East Bridgewater police said.

East Bridgewater Fire paramedics treated the girl at the site, police said. Her mother came to the scene and decline medical transportation on behalf of her daughter.

Residents were encouraged to watch video footage of the crash and share information with police. Chief Michael Jenkins thanked the community for offering tips and helping to identify the driver.

“Without the information provided by the public, we would have had a much harder time reaching a resolution,” Jenkins said.

The driver, who was identified by police on Tuesday, is from Florida but has relatives in the area, according to officials. Police did not release the woman’s name.

She is expected to face two charges, negligent operation of a motor vehicle and leaving the scene of an accident with personal injury, at Brockton District Court.

The investigation is still ongoing. Anyone with more information is asked to call East Bridgewater Police at 508-378-7223.
