EAST LONGMEADOW — Joe Sullivan remembers when it was a big deal if your parents drove you down Bay Street and an even bigger deal if they actually stopped at the old Mutual Ford to check out Uncle Sam.
“Wow! There he is!” said Sullivan, recalling what it was like to see the giant figure. He’s an East Forest Park native who, with non-relative John Sullivan, owns East Village Tavern in East Longmeadow, Nathan Bill’s, The Boulevard Tavern and Sullivan’s Allen Package Store. “And we’d all be in the back of the station wagon, looking up at it.”
