WNBA action on Friday, June 21 includes a marquee matchup between the two-time defending champion Las Vegas Aces and the team with the best record in the league, the Connecticut Sun. The contest will be played in Las Vegas at Michelob ULTRA Arena.
The game is scheduled to start at 10 p.m. EST and will be broadcast on ION. Fans looking to watch this WNBA game can do so for free by using FuboTV and DirecTV Stream, which both offer a free trial or with SlingTV, which doesn’t offer a free trial but has promotional offers available.
The Aces are just 7-6 but after the return of Olympian Chelsea Gray in the last game, the squad looks more formidable than its record would seem. Gray had missed the first 12 games of the season and returned on Wednesday in an 11-point win against the Seattle Storm. Gray chipped in seven assists and two blocks in 16 minutes off the bench while A’ja Wilson extended her 20-point game streak to 20 games and Jackie Young provided a game-high 32 points.
The Sun remain the benchmark in the standings at 13-1. Connecticut is on a four-game winning streak after suffering its lone loss of the season to the Liberty about two weeks ago. All five starters are averaging double figures in scoring with DeWanna Bonner leading the squad at 17.5 points. Alyssa Thomas picked up right where she left off last season and is leading the team in assists (9.8), rebounds (8.1) and steals (1.7) while contributing the third-most points at 12.7 per game.

The Washington Mystics are at the bottom of the WNBA standings with only two ins in 15 games entering Friday, June 21.
A playoff squad each of the last two seasons, the Mystics have fallen victim to key departures and crucial injuries that have 2024 already looking like it could be a lost cause.
An Associated Press story looks at how the team’s first 15 games might have already sealed its fate for the year while looking back at what’s happened in the recent seasons that led up to this moment.
This year’s squad is being led by Ariel Atkins, who was one of five players last season in Washington to average double figures. But thanks to injuries to Brittney Sykes and Shakira Austin, Atkins has had to carry a heavy burden this season when combined with Elena Delle Donne’s decision to step away from basketball for this season and Natasha Cloud going to the Phoenix Mercury.
“Taking what the defense gives me and also kind of creating space for myself and not trying to force anything,” Atkins said after a loss at Indiana that snapped Washington’s two-game winning streak. “Starting to let the game come to me, getting into more of a rhythm, kind of seeing how our team plays, playing to the strengths of my teammates.”
