Worcester police have charged two teens with assault in connection with several incidents Friday during which pedestrians were shot with paintballs from someone inside a car, according to police.
One of the teens was 19-year-old Worcester resident David Asemani, and the other was a 16-year-old who police did not identify because he is a minor, Worcester police said in a Facebook post Saturday. Both are facing multiple counts of assault and battery with a dangerous weapon.
On Feb. 9, officers were dispatched to several locations where pedestrians reported being shot with a paintball gun by a male inside a gray Honda Civic, police said. Officers noticed paint on the victims and issued a call for other officers to be on the lookout for such a vehicle.
Just after midnight that night, a patrol officer noticed a car take a right at a high rate of speed, police said. The officer followed the car, and saw that its license plate matched that of the suspect car.
The officer then activated his emergency lights and pulled the car over, but as he approached the car, a male got out and started running towards Pleasant Street, police said. The male was soon arrested and identified as the 16-year-old.
Officers also arrested the driver and identified him as Asemani, police said. They soon discovered that his license was suspended and that there was a paintball gun in the car.
It is unclear whether the two suspects are facing charges other than assault in connection with the incident.
