Get ready, Boston. Tuesday’s snow storm is now predicted to be the heaviest snowfall the city has experienced in two years.
As of Monday morning, Boston is predicted to receive between 8 and 12 inches of snow.
“Right now, it will be the biggest snowstorm of the year,” said National Weather Service meteorologist Alan Dunham on Monday.
National Weather Service records for Boston indicate it will be even more significant than that. To get a snow total from a single storm higher than that, you need to go back to the winter of 2021-2022, when Boston was walloped by nearly 2 feet of snow on January 29, 2022.

The Boston reading that day was 23.6 inches, according to the National Weather Service.
Snow totals are set to be high across the state, with the National Weather Service predicting heavy snowfall on Tuesday.
While the snowfall is expected to be relatively short in duration, there will be times when snow is falling at between 1 and 2 inches per hour, and in some areas possibly 3 or more inches per hour, the National Weather Service reported.
Most of Massachusetts could see as much of a foot or more of snow. The only region likely not to get that much snow will be the northwest corner of the state, the southeastern corner of the state, and the Cape and Islands.
While Cape Cod is set for the least amount of predicted snow, there are still hazards. Along the coast, the wind is set to be blowing with gusts of up to 40 miles per hour, and storm surges of between 1 and 2 feet are predicted, especially on Tuesday morning.
A Winter Storm Warning is in effect for nearly the whole state.
