Red Sox manager Alex Cora told reporters on Tuesday that the right-handed pitcher is expected to be activated from the injured list on Monday to start against the Houston Astros. Once Houck returns, Boston’s pitching staff will finally be at full strength.

Houck hasn’t pitched in the majors since June 16 when he was hit in the face with a line drive that caused a facial fracture. He underwent surgery, but was optimistic about his recovery.

The return of Houck will also give Boston the opportunity to get back to a traditional five-man rotation. Cora didn’t rule out using a six-man one when Houck returns.

The Red Sox recently added Chris Sale and Garrett Whitlock back into the mix after they missed extended time with injuries. And now Boston is getting 100% healthy as it continues to gain ground in the American League Wild-Card race.

Boston’s series with the Washington Nationals continues on Wednesday night with a 7:05 p.m. ET first pitch.
