Mass. man threatened people at movie theater with an airsoft gun, police say

A Walpole man was arrested in connection with making threats toward several people at Patriot Place’s movie theater, Foxborough police said Wednesday.

Nicholas Butler, 23, faces five counts of assault with a dangerous weapon, one count of threatening to commit a crime, one count of disorderly conduct and one count of disturbing the peace, the Foxborough Police Department said in a statement.

On Tuesday, police received several 911 calls about a man with a gun making these threats to people at Showcase Cinemas at Patriot Place, the department said. The man left the area before officers arrived.

The man was identified as Butler and a warrant was issued for his arrest, police said. He was arrested on Wednesday.

After officers searched Butler’s home, the gun in question was found to be an airsoft gun, the statement read.

Officers determined this was an isolated incident, with no ongoing threat to the public.

Butler is scheduled to be arraigned on Thursday in Wrentham District Court.
