A pair of baby bald eagles is in “good health” after winds blew away their nest, prompting a rescue by Longmeadow firefighters on Tuesday.
“Longmeadow firefighters train for a wide range of emergencies, never knowing when or how the skills developed will be used,” the fire department said in a statement about the eaglets.

The Fannie Stebbins Memorial Wildlife Refuge called the fire department to help in recovering the baby birds, the statement read. Along with wildlife rehabilitator Tom Ricardi, the firefighters found the 7- and 8-week-old birds in a swampy area.
The eagles were taken to Ricardi’s facility, and will recover there before they are expected to be released back into the wild.
