Massachusetts could see some scattered showers and a rumble of thunder Thursday night, with similar conditions possibly repeating on Friday before Saturday’s washout.
Following another sunny day with temperatures in the high 60s or low 70s (and high 50s or low 60s along the coast), a warm front is expected to make its way through southern New England Thursday night, according to the National Weather Service.
A high chance for instability could result in scattered showers and some thunder, which could be “brief as well as hit or miss,” forecasters wrote. Any rain could result in 1 and a half inches of precipitable water, with the chance for some downpours.
Overnight lows should be between the mid-40s and low 50s, forecasters continued.
Rainy conditions should exit the region Friday morning, forecasters said. After another warm day with temperatures in the high 70s or close to 80 degrees, conditions should be mainly dry with partial sunshine. But forecasters have not ruled out any spot showers or spot thunderstorms in the afternoon.
While rainy conditions could pick back up Friday night in Western Massachusetts, forecasters are not expecting a washout until Saturday. Daytime rain should develop in the afternoon and slowly moving east going into the evening and exiting Sunday morning.
Rain totals could be between 0.6 and 0.8 inches, with slow downpours possible as an air mass develops, forecasters said. Sunshine is not likely to appear, with temperatures in the mid-60s along the coast and in the mid-70s toward the interior.
