After weeks on the run, a 5-foot-long water monitor lizard that escaped its home has been caught and is headed to a new home.
Goose, the illegally owned reptile, escaped its home in Webster on July 18. His escape prompted Webster Animal Control to search for the area off Upper Gore Road.
On July 25, Goose was spotted walking in the area of Little Pond on Wilsonville and Thompson roads in Thompson, Connecticut, about five miles south of Webster.
Goose then crossed state lines again as he was seen back in Massachusetts, in Douglas.
The Webster Police Department announced the capture of the lizard on their Facebook page Saturday.
The lizard is now living at Rainforest Reptile Shows‘ Oasis Foundation, a nonprofit animal sanctuary, “where he will receive expert care and a specially designed permanent habitat,” the organization said.
“We don’t just showcase reptiles, we protect them,” the website states.
Other animals the foundation has rescued included a highly venomous cobra being kept in a teenager’s home, a Gaboon Viper, who bit its owner and put them in critical condition, and dozens of alligators taken from homes.
The rescue is also asking for donations to help Goose and others.
The rescue promises to share updates, photos, videos, behind-the-scenes footage and details about Goose’s transition.
