Funeral announced for Brockton firefighter who died on the line of duty

The funeral for Brockton firefighter Jeffrey Albanese, who died on the job on Dec. 9, has been scheduled.

The wake for the 24-year veteran will be held at 3:15 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 26, at Conley Funeral Home at 138 Belmont St. in Brockton, according to a statement from the Professional Fire Fighters of Massachusetts president Richard MacKinnon Jr.

Members of the Professional Fire Fighters of Massachusetts and Brockton Firefighters Local 144 are asked to stage at Arnone Elementary School at 135 Belmont St. at 2 p.m. for a uniformed walkthrough, MacKinnon said. Members are asked to wear their Class A uniforms, white gloves and cover with badge and mourning band.

The funeral will then be held at 1 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 27, at St. Edith Stein Parish at 71 E. Main St. in Brockton, MacKinnon said. Union members are asked to meet at Tommy Doyle’s at Sidelines for staging and to be shuttled to the church, and are asked to wear Class A uniforms, white gloves and cover with badge and mourning band.

Albanese suffered a cardiac arrest on Dec. 9 while on the job responding to an incident. on the jobHe was resuscitated by his fellow firefighters, Brewster EMS and medical staff at Signature Brockton Hospital. He was later transferred to Beth Israel Deaconess in Boston “where he received incredible care,” the Brockton Fire Department said in a statement.

Albanese died just after 11 p.m. on Dec. 22.

“Firefighter Albanese fought a courageous battle with his family and brother and sister firefighters by his side,” the department wrote in its announcement. “Please keep the Albanese family and Brockton Firefighters Local 144 in your thoughts and prayers.”

Albanese had been with the Brockton Fire Department since 2000, working on Squad A, Ladder Company 1. He most recently served as the senior man of Engine Company 4.

“Please keep the Albanese family in your thoughts and prayers,” MacKinnon wrote at the end of his statement.
