Demario Douglas injury: Patriots WR ruled out for second half

FOXBOROUGH — Patriots rookie receiver Demario “Pop” Douglas left Sunday’s game against the Saints with a head injury. New England originally listed him return as questionable but ruled him out early in the second half.

Douglas caught a 24-yard pass from Mac Jones in the first quarter and absorbed a hit to the head by Marshon Lattimore, who was flagged for unnecessary roughness on the play.

Douglas initially returned to the game and was targeted for a pass he didn’t catch in the second quarter before coming out.

Douglas, a sixth-round pick out of Liberty, has 10 catches for 143 yards through five games as a rookie.

With Kayshon Boutte inactive and Tyquan Thornton on injured reserve, the Patriots have just three receivers active – DeVante Parker, JuJu Smith-Schuster and Kendrick Bourne — without Douglas. Matthew Slater is listed as a receiver but plays exclusively special teams. Last year they occasionally used defensive back Marcus Jones in that role, but he’s also on injured reserve.
