BWC shows arrest of Fla. man who headbutted officer, threated to ‘detonate himself’

MIAMI BEACH, Fla. — Miami Beach police released body camera footage showing the weekend arrest of a man who headbutted a police officer, Local 10 reported.

Officers said the man was wearing military-style fatigues and was armed with a knife and cans containing accelerants. The suspect claimed he would blow himself up and repeatedly yelled at officers to shoot him, video shows. Police did not fire their weapons during the incident.

According to Miami Beach police, the man headbutted an officer during the arrest. The officer sustained a laceration and required stitches at Mount Sinai Hospital.

“[The suspect] had a knife and made threats that he was going to detonate himself,” said Miami Beach Police spokesperson Officer Christopher Bess. “Our officer did exactly what we trained to do.”

Prosecutors have filed three felony charges, aggravated battery on a law enforcement officer, making a bomb threat and resisting arrest with violence, as well as two misdemeanors for resisting arrest without violence and carrying a weapon, according to the report.
