Don Sweeney hinted on Saturday that the Boston Bruins could have contract news regarding a restricted free agent, and that came on Sunday.
The Bruins announced a pair of signings in center Marat Khusnutdinov and defenseman Michael Callahan. Khusnutdinov was set to become a restricted free agent on July 1.
Khusnutdinov signed a two-year deal with an annual cap hit of $925,000. The 22-year-old was acquired by Boston from the Wild in a trade that sent Justin Brazeau to Minnesota. In 18 games for the Bruins, Khusnutdinov had three goals two assists.
Callahan, who was a Group-6 UFA from Massachusetts, was signed to a one-year, two-way contract with an annual cap hit of $775,000. The defenseman spent most of the 2024-25 season in Providence, but appeared in 17 games for the Bruins and had a goal during that stretch.
The Bruins still have decisions to make when it comes to other pending RFAs including Morgan Geekie, Johnny Beecher, Jakub Lauko and Oliver Wahlstrom.
