The Red Sox have the Yankees’ number this season and New York’s struggles continued Saturday afternoon in an ugly 12-1 loss to Boston at Yankee Stadium.
“It’s not ideal,” Giancarlo Stanton told reporters after the game. “It’s unacceptable. We all know that.”
The Yankees are 1-8 against their rival this season and will try to avoid the four-game sweep Sunday night.
Going into the series, the Yankees won their previous five games and had the opportunity to build on their 1½ game lead over Boston in the American League Wild Card standings.
After three straight losses, New York is now two games behind the Red Sox.
“We’re definitely — I can only speak for myself — definitely angry,” Aaron Judge told reporters. “Especially against your rivals, don’t like the showing we’ve had here at home.”
The Yankees offense, pitching and defense has struggled throughout the series. Judge knows it’s on everyone on the team to step up in order to avoid a four-game sweep.
“Everyone in this room’s got to play a little bit better. Pick it up a notch and go out there and take care of business (Sunday),” he said. “There’s nothing we can do about the past 100-something games we played. We got to focus on what we can do now and that’s all you can do.”
