Woman hit and killed by commuter rail train in Newton

A woman was fatally struck by a commuter rail train in Newton on Tuesday, police said.

Transit Police Superintendent Richard Sullivan confirmed the woman’s death but did not identify her. Sullivan referred further comment to Middlesex County District Attorney Marian Ryan’s office. Ryan’s office did not respond to a request for information sent Tuesday afternoon.

The woman’s death caused extensive delays on the Framingham/Worcester line of the commuter rail across several hours Tuesday, beginning around 11 a.m., according to posts by the MBTA on X, formerly Twitter.
