BULLARD, Texas — A Smith County sheriff’s deputy responded to an unusual call when a family in Bullard reported an alligator in their backyard swimming pool, KLTV reported.
Deputy Brian Hutchins arrived at the home after the family discovered the reptile. With no game wardens available to respond to the call, Hutchins improvised a capture tool using a PVC pipe to create a makeshift lasso.
“I was like, an alligator? What do they want me to do about an alligator? I can’t do anything about an alligator!” Hutchins told KLTV.
Hutchins successfully secured the alligator and placed it in the back of his patrol vehicle.
“I heard their little dogs barking and I said, ‘Well, we can’t leave the alligator here because he’s got breakfast laying around,’” Hutchins said.
He released the gator in a safe location on the advice of a Texas game warden.
Homeowner Lacy Turner said she’s always been cautious about snakes in the pool, but this was a first.
“I will now be looking for gators, and I hope everyone else does too,” she said.
