New England skiers are getting an early holiday gift this year.
Thanks to some early cold snaps and a flurry of November snow, several major ski mountains across the region are already spinning lifts — weeks ahead of the usual December rush.
Resorts from Massachusetts to Maine and Vermont have officially kicked off the 2025–26 ski season, drawing early-morning lines, packed lodge decks, and a wave of skiers eager for first tracks.
A growing number of mountains across the region have started welcoming skiers for the season, and with more cold weather in the forecast, even more mountains are poised to join them.
These New England ski resorts are open, as of Nov. 28:
Jiminy Peak, Massachusetts
The season kicked off Nov. 28 “with top to bottom terrain off the Express and beginner terrain off the novice.”
“We’ve been working to pile up the snow on our open terrain to bring you the best conditions possible,” the company said on Facebook.
“Snowmaking efforts resume later this week where we’ll add to what we got while continuing to lay mounds on fan favorites such as left bank.”
Wachusett Mountain, Princeton, Massachusetts
Wachusett Mountain opened for the 2025-2026 season on Nov 22.
Wachusett Mountain employees took to Facebook to share their excitement for opening day. While several trails are already open, the resort is currently clearing up more for the season ahead.
Sugarloaf Mountain, Maine
Sugarloaf Mountain kicked off its 75th season on Nov. 21.
“Huge thank you to everyone who came out and made it an opening weekend to remember,” the company said.
“But we’re not done there. Snow guns are blasting top to bottom on trails like Skidder, Hayburner, Kings Landing, and more, we’ve got our sights set on expanding terrain, and soon.”
Sunday River, Newry, Maine
The resort opened Nov. 15, revealing it had “300+ snowguns ripping top to bottom across Jordan and Locke,” in preparation of the 2025-2026 season.
Black Mountain, Jackson, NH
Black Mountain opened to pass holders for its 91st season on Saturday, Nov. 15.
“We are making a statement that this little mountain and everything that it stands for is back and better than ever,” the company wrote on social media.
“… We will celebrate the sport and culture of skiing with the gatherings we have become famous for.”
Bretton Woods, Carroll, New Hampshire
New Hampshire’s season kicked off early when Bretton Woods opened Nov. 15, marking it the first resort in New Hampshire open for the season, according to Bretton Woods.
“There’s nothing like the excitement of dropping the rope on Opening Day,” Alexa Bernotavicz, director of ski operations said in a social media post.
Cannon Mountain, New Hampshire
Cannon opened six days ahead of schedule on Nov. 22 — the earliest it has since 2019 and “one of our earliest in history!”
Loon Mountain, New Hampshire
The resort opened for the season Nov. 21, with “2,100 vertical feet, 14 open trails, (and) 2 peaks—top-to-bottom skiing and riding.”
Bolton Valley, Vermont
Bolton Valley opened Nov. 22 with plans to continue snowmaking and trail clearing for a ” fresh and clean“ season ahead.
Bromley Mountain, Vermont
Bromley Mountain opened for the season Nov. 28 at 9 a.m.
“Our plan is for top to bottom skiing & riding, and it’s going to be an amazing season, so let’s get things off to a great start!!!,” the company said.
Killington Resort, Killington, Vermont
Killington opened for the season on Nov. 12.
By Nov. 25, the resort had four lifts and 29 trails open — “the most early season terrain we’ve had before Thanksgiving in years.”
The company said it plans to push towards opening more than 40 trails for Thanksgiving weekend.
Mount Snow, Vermont
The resort opened for the season Nov. 22, giving a “to everyone who showed up and showed out, and an even bigger shoutout to the crew who made today happen.”
Okemo Mountain, Vermont
Okemo kicked off its 70th season Nov. 22 “in style,” giving a big thanks to “everyone who came out to celebrate the start of winter.”
Smugglers’ Notch Resort, Jeffersonville, Vermont
Smugglers’ Notch Resort opened Nov. 28.
“This Friday we are VERY excited to welcome you back to the mountain to kick off the 25/26 ski season!,” the company said earlier this week.
“Skiing and riding will be accessed via the Sterling Lift from 8:30 am – 4:00 pm. There will be advanced skiing and riding only (No beginner terrain will be available).”
Stowe Mountain Resort, Stowe, Vermont
Stowe is up and running for its 90th season, having opened Nov. 21 with “58 open trail(s), totaling 250+ acres of top to bottom skiing and riding on Vermont’s highest peak.”
Stratton Mountain, Vermont
Stratton kicked off the season on Nov. 26, sharing a clip of excited skiers with the caption “Let’s Winter!”
Sugarbush, Vermont
Sugarbush opened for the season Nov. 22, joining the long list of resorts enjoying the early winter weather.
