While awaiting trial for assault charge, police believe Mass. man stabbed another man

While awaiting trail on a charge of assault and battery, a 38-year-old Massachusetts man was released. Now, he’s the suspect in a fatal stabbing.

David Adams, of Dorchester, is accused of stabbing David Abrain, 52, of Roxbury, on Dorchester Avenue around 10 p.m. on Friday, according to Boston Police. Adams was arraigned on the murder charge in Boston Municipal Court in Dorchester on Monday, where a judge revoked his bail in the assault and battery case.

A plea of not guilty was entered on Adams’ behalf, court records show. A motion filed by Adams’ attorney seeking a medical expert was allowed.

In April, Adams was arrested on a misdemeanor charge of assault and battery on a household member. Following his arraignment on that charge, he was released on his personal recognizance, records show.

A jury trial on that charge was scheduled for September, according to court filings. Suffolk County District Attorney Kevin Hayden’s office did not immediately respond to a request for information on that case.

Adams will return to court for a probable cause hearing on the murder charge on Sept. 26.
