Westfield Little League Baseball 10-Year-Old All-Stars get even

WESTFIELD – The Westfield Little League 10-Year-Old All-Stars came up a little short in their district tournament opener to Longmeadow last weekend. They bounced back against Southampton in a big, big way.

Ben Davenport delivered on the mound and at the plate as Westfield exploded for 19 runs in defeating Southampton 19-2 Monday evening at Ralph E. Sanville Memorial Field (Cross Street).

Davenport drove in five runs on two hits. He doubled in the first inning, scoring three runs to help Westfield take a 5-0 lead. He also singled in the third inning to help the Whip City’s all-star team tack on four more runs.

Bridger Braun and A.J. Jimenez both scored three runs and plated two runs each for Westfield, which broke open the game in the fourth inning with a 10-run outburst. Andrew Karetka (double) and Cam Garvey each had two walks, three runs and an RBI. Hunter Werman (double, walk, run, RBI), Romeo DeFilipi (walk, three runs), Colin Smith (run, RBI), Jared LeCours (run) also each had a hit. Colton Rowe walked twice.

Davenport was electric on the mound, striking out Longmeadow’s first five batters. He allowed one run and no hits over two innings before being lifted for pitchers Grady Csekovsky (1 K) and Karetka (2 Ks), who each tossed one inning of shutout relief.

Westfield (1-1) will wrap up the round robin portion of its district tournament schedule Wednesday at Easthampton’s Milne Field. First pitch is at 5:30 p.m.
