Exercise or physical movement of any kind is necessary for good health. Our bodies are made for mobility and require nourishment to run. This week’s topic is devoid of any controversy or government issues. We all need a break from politics deep dive into public health. I don’t think anyone can argue against the fact that exercise and good nutrition are vital. That being said, we are going to take a brisk walk through the basics of maintaining one’s well being.
Studies show that many foods as well as good hydration are recommended before a workout to improve performance and endurance. And other foods are helpful after a workout for muscle recovery. Hydration is of essential importance for the body especially when exercising.
Carbohydrates should be a part of pre-workout nutrition. Muscles use glucose from carbs for energy. Protein increases muscle mass, muscle recovery, increases strength and lean body mass. Some studies have found fats also provide energy and improve performance but it’s still being debated if the benefit outweighs the risk of slow digestion, possible bloating and fullness.
