
Ready for the big screen?
You don’t have to live in sunny California to become a movie star. Plenty of casting calls are posted on Backstage, a website that links production companies with actors daily. And many of these casting calls are in Massachusetts or New England.
The Bay State has served as a pipeline to Hollywood before, with A-list actors such as Matt Damon, Chris Evans, Jennifer Coolidge and Mindy Kaling all hailing from Massachusetts.
For aspiring actors hoping to make their big break, check out these acting auditions below.
East Coast Talent is looking for someone to star in a short film/reality project, according to a listing on Backstage. The project is “seeking actresses, content creators, models or any women interested in growing their online social media presence for a short film/reality project.”
The project is looking for three women from Boston of any racial background “with an attitude and not afraid to show it,” the listing stated.
The compensation for this role is a flat rate of $250 for about four hours of work, according to Backstage.

“Chi Mangia Solo” is a short film that explores the relationship between a father struggling with Alzheimer’s and his daughter, a young woman grappling with a demanding career, according to the film’s description on Backstage.
The project is looking for a man who will play the character of Umberto, Backstage said. He is expected to be between 60 to 80 years old and should know how to cook.
The compensation for this role is a flat rate of $100 for about two days of work, according to Backstage. Transport, accommodations and meals will be provided and the producer does plan to apply to a SAG-AFTRA New Media Agreement.

“Aluminum Distortions” is “an experimental dance short film,” described as a modern adaptation of a classic fairy tale, according to its job listing on Backstage.
The production company is seeking a dancer with experience or interest in contemporary dance and is open to improvisation.
The role open for audition is a female lead, 18 years or older. Shoots started in late June and extend into July in Boston.
Compensation is a flat rate of up to $500 for an estimated 10 hours of work.

“Recipe,” is a short family drama.
This project requires a female actor who is between 18 and 25 years old, according to Backstage. The actress will play a local Bostonian teen who is confident, extroverted and “dances to many beats, but mostly her own.”
They should be either of Black or African descent, ethnically ambiguous, multiracial, Latino or Hispanic, Backstage said.
The project also needs two voice actors who can work from home. One voice actor would play Junipera. This role would require a woman aged 18 to 50, who can speak English and Spanish with a Puerto Rican accent, Backstage said.
Another voice actor would play Fabian. This role would require a man aged 18 to 50, who can speak English and Spanish with a Puerto Rican accent, Backstage said.
The compensation for the voice acting roles is a flat rate of $100 for roughly three hours of work. Meanwhile, the pay for the local kid role would be a flat rate of anywhere from $100 to $250 for eight hours of work, Backstage said.
