With a Dunkin’ iced coffee in one hand and a bacon, egg and cheese on toasted bagel in the other, it’s no question that Massachusetts loves bagels.
But ever have you wondered just how much Bay Staters actually seek out a good bagel?
The Cookie Rookie published a guide revealing the most popular foods around the United States, including the most popular dishes in each state.
After compiling a list of state dishes, the food and recipe outlet examined social media and Google searches to determine the most popular state dishes.
As it turns out, bagels are the most searched state dish in 23 out of 50 states, including Massachusetts.
“In the U.S., bagels were searched for 11 million times in the last year, with New York, where it originated, searching for this 2.5 million times, more than any other state, followed by California with just over 1 million searches,” the guide reads.
According to The Cookie Rookie’s research, while bagels were the most popular breakfast dish, enchiladas were the second most popular state dish.
Enchiladas were the most searched state dish in seven states, including Indiana, Missouri, Montana, Ohio, Oklahoma, Texas and Wisconsin.
Fried green tomatoes and runza — a bread pocket filled with beef, cabbage or sauerkraut, onions and seasonings — both tied for third place.
Fried green tomatoes were the most searched in Kentucky, Georgia and Alabama, while runza was most searched in Iowa, South Dakota and Nebraska.
