PALM DESERT, Calif. — The Riverside County Sheriff’s Department has released body camera footage of an officer involved shooting that occurred after a woman threw a knife at officers, KESQ reported.

The incident occurred on Dec. 10, 2023, when a woman called 911 and told dispatchers that a man she did not know whom she believed to be armed was trying to kill her, according to the report.

When officers arrived at the residence, they announced at a doorway that they had arrived at the home and instructed anyone inside to come out and identify themselves, video released on Jan. 25 shows. When no one came to the door, they went inside.

Video shows the officers encounter a man, who obeyed all of the officers’ commands and was handcuffed by the officers. A woman then emerged from a hallway.

Officers saw that the woman, now identified as Kelly Lynette Cronn, 53, was holding a knife and instructed her to drop the knife. Instead, she threw it in the direction of the officers. Officers then fired several shots, bringing her to the ground.

Cronn sustained non-life-threatening injuries as a result of the shooting. It was later determined that she had been the woman who initially called 911, according to the report. She was charged with two counts of assault with a deadly weapon upon a peace officer.
