Unable to produce offense, Red Sox defensive lapses prove especially costly

BOSTON — For the past few weeks, the Red Sox have been hard-pressed to mount much of an offense. In their last 13 games, they’ve been held to three runs or fewer nine times.

When a team isn’t scoring, it had better get strong pitching and defense to make up for the lack of runs. On Tuesday night, the Red Sox only took care of half that equation.
