Trick-or-treaters should bundle up this Halloween as 50 mph winds blow through Mass.

Whipping winds of up to 50 mph are expected to blow through Massachusetts on Friday and National Weather Service forecasters are urging trick-or-treaters to bundle up.

The winds come a day after a storm brought heavy rain throughout the state. Showers should continue to taper off throughout Friday morning, though some could linger over areas in higher elevations. Still, the state should dry out by Halloween night.

But forecasters say the main concern is those winds, with a wind advisory in place for the entire state from 2 p.m. to 5 a.m.

“Gusty winds will blow around unsecured objects,” forecasters wrote. “Tree limbs could be blown down and some power outages may result.”

Most areas should see gusts of at least 40 mph beginning Friday afternoon. But higher elevations, areas along the immediate coast and Cape Cod and the Islands are all at risk for wind gusts faster than 45 mph.

Temperatures will fall into the 40s and low 50s on Halloween night, but gusty winds will make it feel more like the 30s and low 40s

“Bundle up if you plan on being outdoors,” forecasters wrote.

Looking ahead to the weekend, the winds should gradually decrease as the day goes on Saturday. Most of the day will still feature high-speed gusts, just not as intense as Friday.

An area of high pressure moving into the region will bring dry conditions and mostly sunny skies, with temperatures slightly below normal for early November. Areas of high terrain should see highs in the 40s, while the rest of the state should see temperatures in the low to mid-50s.

Sunday brings more of the same, with dry and sunny conditions and temperatures in the upper 40s for high terrain and low to mid 50s for the remainder of the state.

A cold front will race into the region late Monday into Monday night, with the possibility for some light showers. The next chance for rain after that comes Thursday morning and during the day.
