These Mass. schools are still delayed or closed in the wake of Tuesday’s nor’easter

A largely underwhelming nor’easter hit Massachusetts Tuesday, bringing far less snow than originally predicted to most of the state but significantly more snow to its southeastern region. A few school districts on Cape Cod still had delays on Wednesday.

Forecasters were still predicting snow totals of 12 to 18 inches in Boston and Worcester and 8 to 12 inches in most of the rest of the state less than a day before the snowstorm was expected to reach Massachusetts. As a result, the state experienced a day of widespread school closings, and some public school districts, including Boston and Salem, cancelled school as early as Monday morning.

But later that afternoon, meteorologists noticed the nor’easter tracking significantly further south than expected — a change that dramatically changed the snowstorm’s timeline and expected snowfall. While most communities in Massachusetts were underwhelmed with the snow they received, the change in the storm’s path meant that Cape Cod and the Islands experienced more snow than expected.
