The Third Annual Kamari B. Williams Memorial Scholarship Golf Tournament

Springfield – State Representative Bud L. Williams and Dr. Gloria B. Williams, along with members of the Kamari B. Williams scholarship committee invite and welcome members of the community to attend the 3rd Annual Kamari B. Williams Memorial Scholarship Golf Tournament on Saturday, Aug. 26. Tee time is at 9 a.m. at the Veterans Memorial Golf Club, located at 1059 South Branch Parkway. A press conference is scheduled at 9:45 a.m. and a shotgun start at 10 a.m.

“The golf tournament is a fundraiser. There is still time for teams of 4 to register and for you to donate at https://www.facebook.com/TheKamariWilliamsMemorialFoundation/. All proceeds go toward the Kamari B. Williams Memorial Scholarship which my wife and I established in the months following the unexpected death of our son, Kamari” says Rep. Williams. “We formed the scholarship committee to enable the next generation, specifically the scholar-athletes, to realize their dreams by providing some means of scholarship funds towards higher education, illuminating the admirable qualities that our son demonstrated as a student-athlete during his time at Cathedral.”

Kamari was an educator, a counselor at Springfield High School, and the Varsity basketball coach at the High School of Science and Technology. He served as the Junior Varsity basketball coach at the former Cathedral High School while he taught mathematics at Sci-Tech before becoming a counselor at Springfield Central High School where he mentored and provided guidance, and support to many young people as they navigated their educational journey and their way through life.

The Kamari B. Williams Memorial Scholarship provides scholarship awards to outstanding students from eight (8) Springfield Public High Schools; the 2nd Annual Awards Ceremony was held on May 31, at the Springfield High School of Science and Technology.

While in high school, Kamari was honored by receiving the William Wise Sportsmanship Award for exemplifying respectful behavior as an athlete and in his interactions with others throughout his life.
