The Academy Award nominated film “Killers of the Flower Moon” opens with an Indigenous American raising a decorated pipe. “Those children who are outside listening,” says Chief Arthur Bonnicastle, played by actor Yancey Red Corn. “They will be taught by white people.”
What most don’t know is that the chief’s name originated in the Pioneer Valley more than 150 years ago.
