The Milestone Club: Who has celebrated so far this winter? (photos/video)

Whether you’re an athlete who plays basketball, hockey, wrestling, swimming, or indoor track & field during the winter season, chances are high that you or someone on your team will celebrate a personal milestone in that respective sport.

Regardless of the scenario, though, MassLive wants to recognize all of these achievements because everyone deserves an opportunity to be highlighted.

That said, our high school sports team has assembled a fun project to commemorate each of the reported milestones that have occurred during the first half of the 2025-2026 winter season.

But if any personal milestones are missing from this list, coaches or family members can always send those missing results to sports@masslive.com.

Now let’s begin the fun, shall we?

When Da’Naysia Banks graduates from Sci-Tech, she will walk away with her name hanging from a banner, forever etched in Cybercats’ history.

As Sci-Tech’s first girls basketball player to reach 1,000 career points in program history, the milestone symbolizes the new standard that Banks has set for the next generation.

“Honestly, I just feel really thankful and grateful,” Banks said on reaching the milestone, doing so in her 29-point performance on Dec. 16 in the Cybercats’ win over Monson.

At halftime of Thursday’s game, the Golden Eagles celebrated Zi’Yan Wallace’s milestone achievement, having crossed 1,000 career points over the weekend in the Golden Eagles’ win over Thrive Charter (NJ) on Saturday, Jan. 3.

“I feel really great, I feel like I’m free to play in a way,” Wallace said after the game. “I don’t have anything to worry about, just scoring and rebounding… now that that big pedestal is out of the way.”

Bella Bingham of Walpole girls basketball scored her 1,000th career point on Jan. 6, 2026.

Bingham is no stranger to receiving attention on the basketball court. As a two-time Bay State Conference All-Star, when any coach makes a gameplan against Walpole, she is likely the first name that is discussed.

As a junior, she averaged a double-double and led the 14th-seeded Timberwolves to the quarterfinals in the Division II state tournament.

Despite the accolades, the senior was not ready for the spotlight on Tuesday, Jan. 6, at Wellesley High School when she scored her 1,000th career point.

“I had no idea they were going to stop the game and get pictures,” Bingham said. “I thought it was just for after the game, but it was awesome. I was surrounded by a great group of girls.”

Addie Harrington of Frontier girls basketball scored her 1,000th career point on Jan. 7, 2026.

With just a two-point advantage at the start of the second half, the Redhawks came out of the break on Tuesday, Jan. 7, with renewed determination on defense to close out the game.

And along the way, get Harrington 10 more points.

No. 6 Frontier girls basketball completed both tasks, running away in the second half to a 58-39 victory over No. 8 Wahconah. Harrington remained aggressive throughout, needing just three points in the final quarter to reach 1,000.

She opened the quarter with two more free throws to put her within reach. The highlight moment came soon after, catching a cross-court pass from Macy DeMaio and draining an open three from the right-side corner.

“I didn’t actually know it was until I saw everyone jumping,” Harrington said. “It was kind of shocking.”

Emersynn Cage of Longmeadow girls basketball scored her 1,000th career point on Jan. 9, 2026.

Emersynn Cage dropped 32 points, including the 1,000th of her career, on Friday, Jan. 9, to fuel Longmeadow girls basketball to a 69-62 victory against South Hadley.

It was the first time since 2008 that a Longmeadow girls’ basketball player has reached 1,000 points in their career.

“I think that says a lot about how unique this is, how special this is, and how proud we are of that accomplishment,” said Longmeadow coach Tim Allen. “It also should be noted that she did this before the halfway mark of her senior year, and she missed half of her sophomore year with an ACL. So essentially, she has scored 1,000 points in three total years.”

Avery Burkholder of Southwick girls basketball scored her 1,000th career point on Jan. 12, 2026.

Monday, Jan. 12, was a dream come true in more ways than one for Avery Burkholder.

It was a complete family effort in the second quarter, though, as Emma Burkholder recorded a defensive rebound and then located Madelyn Burkholder along the right. And before the defense had an opportunity to regroup, Madelyn Burkholder connected with Avery Burkholder with a bounce pass.

And the rest was history, as Avery Burkholder strided forward, re-positioned along the key for a pull-up jumper, and then found nothing but net to seal the milestone in the Rams’ eventual 44-38 win over Westfield.

“It was really nice to get this done at home,” Avery Burkholder said. “It could have happened in Belchertown on Friday, but I think it was meant to happen at home with everyone here. It wasn’t just big for me, it was big for Southwick.”

During the first quarter and on her very first made shot of the night, McCarthy sank a 3-pointer to achieve just that.

“It was great for her to be able to celebrate at home, and she’s a kid that has gone from a role player (during) her freshman year on a state championship appearance team to really working incredibly hard at her game for the last couple of years,” Warriors coach Liz Kay said. “It was really rewarding to see her get it.”

Harolyn Castillo made history on her home court, but it was a night of mixed emotions for the Pittsfield girls basketball team.

Castillo, who entered the game against Minnechaug just four points away from the 1,000-point mark, achieved the milestone with poise, hitting two clutch free throws in the second quarter.

Castillo became the 10th player in Pittsfield girls basketball history to reach 1,000 points, and the first since Jamie Duquette in 2023

“I can feel the weight off my shoulders, and now I can finish the season without stressing about this,” said Castillo with a smile. “My main focus now is winning states. All of the seniors agree that, as our last year here, it’s our responsibility to make it that far.”

Max Millette of Frontier boys basketball recorded his 1,000th career point on Dec. 15, 2025.

Coming into Monday, Dec. 15’s boys basketball game between Frontier and Athol, Max Millette was eight points away from reaching a personal milestone inside somewhere memorable for the Red Hawk.

“My mindset was focused on just getting the win,” Millette said. “It was hard to avoid the thought of getting it because I just wanted to help us win. The crowd was great tonight because this is actually where it all started, since I got my first bucket in eighth grade here.”

As the Redhawks maintained a comfortable lead entering the second quarter, Millette slowed down on locating open teammates around the court and decided to shoot himself. And no bigger opportunity presented itself than when Frontier forced another turnover in the opposing zone.

Now with only one defender to beat, Millette maneuvered around Tyler Kacmarczyk and scored with his right hand to make it a 30-10 lead for the Redhawks with 3:23 left until halftime. More importantly, though, that shot ensured Millette eclipsed the 1,000-point mark of his career in an eventual 68-33 win for Frontier against Athol.

“I was able to reach this milestone thanks to my teammates and coaches,” Millette said. “Coach (Josh Morse) gives me the ultimate freedom, and that’s the best way I can be as a player.”

On Friday, Jan. 9, the Smith Vocational community made the drive north to Buckland to witness the now-senior score his 1,000th point.

He did not make them wait. Just about two and a half minutes into the game, Josh Cole had the ball in the paint when he saw Sanchez cutting to the top of the key. Cole hit Sanchez in rhythm, and the senior didn’t hesitate.

“It was perfect,” Vikings coach Akara Holder said. “It was one of those when he put it up, I was like, ‘It’s in.’ You could just feel it.’”

Austin Meacham of Monson boys basketball scored his 1,000th career point on Jan. 14, 2026.

Austin Meacham saved his best for last on Wednesday, Jan. 14.

Coming into the fourth quarter against Hampden Charter, the Monson boys basketball team only maintained a one-point lead in what was previously a back-and-forth affair. Meacham, however, still needed five more points to reach 1,000 for his high school career.

It was the perfect combination. Meacham not only recorded eight of his game-high 27 points in the fourth to earn the milestone on a transitional hoop, but the Mustangs also used that motivation to earn an eventual 57-45 win inside Michael J. Kane Gymnasium.

“This was awesome to do this in front of my home fans,” Meacham said. “I had a big night yesterday. So to be able to come here and do it here tonight with friends and family here was awesome because it means so much to me.”

A lively crowd didn’t have to wait long to see Jaylen McIver make history on Saturday, Jan. 17.

The Springfield International sophomore guard needed six points to reach the 1,000-point mark during the Bulldogs’ game against Tolland (Conn.) at the 2026 Hoophall Invitational.

It took less than a quarter for him to accomplish the impressive feat. McIver received a lead pass from teammate Ashton Chambers in transition and sank a layup around a Tolland defender with 1:16 remaining in the first period to become the 17th player (and 11th boy) in school history to score 1,000 points.

“Make the shot, you know, that’s the first thought,” said McIver with a smile when asked what went through his mind on the play. “And, yeah, honestly, just hopefully it goes in. What I’ve been working on in practice, I think that’s developed, and the results in the games have shown.”

“It means a lot to me,” Moynihan said. “But it means a lot to my brother (Ant), because my brother wasn’t able to get 1,000 when he played at Easthampton. So it’s a little extra special to the family that I was able to do. It means a lot.”
