Snow could continue in Massachusetts into Monday afternoon.
After some communities received more than 20 inches of snow, the National Weather Service forecasters predict that periods of light to moderate snow will continue through Monday afternoon.
Forecasters said there might be some breaks in snowfall but that it could redevelop throughout the day.
Due to dry air, however, accumulations won’t be as extreme as Sunday. Overall, forecasters are expecting 1-2 inches for most of the state, with 2-5 inches closer to the eastern and northeastern coastline.
A winter storm warning remains in effect until 8 p.m.
Temperatures are expected to remain cold. The National Weather Service said it is forecasting highs in the teens and 20s with lows in the single digits. Children enjoying the snow day are encouraged to bundle up, the weather service wrote.
The speed limit on the Mass. Pike remains reduced to 40 mph in both directions from the New York border to mile marker 110 in Southborough, according to the Massachusetts Department of Transportation (MassDOT).
Additionally, no tandem trucks or specially permitted vehicles are allowed on I-90 during the storm, MassDOT said.
Gov. Maura Healey asked Massachusetts residents to stay off the roads.
“For folks who are on the road right now — get off the road,” she said at a Sunday afternoon press conference.
However, for essential workers or others needing to drive, MassDOT provides live video of road conditions.
Little snowfall is expected throughout the week. But forecasters are watching the possibility of another storm over the weekend.
