Texas deputy killed in vehicle crash

HARRIS COUNTY, Texas — A sheriff’s deputy has died following a vehicle crash on the way to a jail, according to the Officer Down Memorial Page.

After finishing an overtime assignment, Deputy Rondald Bates was driving when he lost control of his vehicle and hit a tree, according to the page. He was taken to a hospital where he died.

Deputy Bates had served with the Harris County Sheriff’s Office for 31 years, according to the page. He is survived by his wife and two children.
