Temperatures decline Wednesday as thunderstorm risk remains across Mass.

After days of intense heat and humidity across Massachusetts, temperatures fall back to normal for much of the state on Wednesday, particularly in Eastern Massachusetts.

On the coast and in the northeast part of the state, temperatures should remain at or below 80 on Wednesday — a welcome change after temperatures shot above 90 earlier this week. But in Western Massachusetts, the change won’t be quite as noticable, with highs as warm as 88 in Springfield.

Some early-morning showers in the western and central part of the state are expected to move east as the day goes on, capable of bringing heavy rain, thunder and lightning. Still, the risk of severe weather is over, National Weather Service forecasters said.

Storms are possible Wednesday afternoon, but unlikely to be as strong as those that passed through the state Tuesday night. That said, any storms could still bring torrential downpours.

The unsettled conditions will continue into the evening, with scattered showers and thunder.

A quasi-stationary front settles in over the Bay State on Thursday, bringing with it more showers and storms, beginning roughly in the mid-afternoon and continuing through the early evening. It’s still not clear where exactly the storms will hit, but forecasters indicated Western Massachusetts is at the greatest risk for severe weather.

The pattern remains largely the same on Friday, with a risk for more showers and storms.

As for the weekend, “it`s likely Saturday is the day which features the lowest chance for showers,” forecasters wrote. “Even Sunday should be dry most of the time, with the risk for some showers and thunderstorms late in the day.”
