Temperatures could feel like 100 as sweltering conditions descend on Mass. this week

Temperatures across Massachusetts are projected to soar to around 90 degrees on Tuesday as growing heat and humidity descend over the Bay State this week.

Much of the state is subject to a Heat Advisory beginning at 11 a.m. Tuesday and stretching until 7 p.m. on Thursday, which warns of heat index values, or “feels like” temperatures, up to 100.

“Drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, stay out of the sun, and check up on relatives and neighbors,” National Weather Service forecasters wrote. “Limit outdoor activities during the midday hours.”

The heat and humidity are expected to peak on Wednesday, when heat indices reach 100 for much of the state, except for some higher elevations and areas along the South Coast.

Temperatures will remain high for the rest of the week, with increasing chances of rain showers and thunderstorms. A cold front will break the heat, but forecasters say it’s not yet clear when the front will arrive.

If the front moves in slowly, the heat and humidity could stretch into Friday. But a quicker approach would mean showers and thunderstorms throughout the day on Thursday.

Either way, relief from the heat will arrive just in time for the weekend.
