LAS VEGAS — Celtics free agent forward Drew Peterson agreed to a two-way deal with the Hornets on Monday night a source confirmed to MassLive. Shams Charania of ESPN.com was first to report the news.
Peterson spent the past two seasons in Boston after signing a two-way deal with the team in December 2023. He appeared in 28 contests over the past two seasons, posting 2.2 points and 1.6 rebounds per game while shooting 42.1 percent from 3-point range.
The 25-year-old’s departure from Boston appeared inevitable after the team selected Amari Williams and Max Shulga on draft night and reportedly offer two-way deals to both players. With Miles Norris already signed to Boston’s other two-way slot, Peterson looked to be the odd man out. He did not play with Boston during Summer League as he sought out a new home.
Peterson will rejoin former Celtics assistant coach Charles Lee who is now entering his second year as head coach of the Hornets. Blaine Mueller, Peterson’s former coach with the Maine Celtics, is also now in Charlotte as an assistant coach under Lee.
With Peterson signing in Charlotte, Boston’s only remaining unsigned free agents are Al Horford and Torrey Craig. Neither player is expected to return to Boston next season. Boston’s current roster is full with 15 roster players and all three two-way slots accounted for.
