A 17-year-old who had gone missing while swimming in Learned Pond in Framingham was rushed to a hospital Sunday afternoon after being pulled out of the water not breathing, the city’s fire department said.
Framingham firefighters were called to the pond around 3:10 p.m. The 17-year-old had last been seen in the water around 3:02 p.m. Sunday, the department said in a statement posted to Facebook.
The department deployed a “full water rescue operation” to the scene, according to the statement.
When first responders arrived, surface swimmers began a coordinated search for the boy, while a diver entered the water to help aid the rescue effort.
About 10 minutes later, the teen boy was found around 30 yards from the beach. He was not breathing when he was brought to the surface, the fire department said.
The boy was taken to a hospital by an ambulance.
The city’s Parks and Recreation department had four staffers on duty at the pond, but no lifeguards, according to the fire department.
