CHESHIRE, Mass. — 17-year-old Pittsfield girl is facing a charge of operating under the influence after crashing a car into Massachusetts State Police barracks in Cheshire on Saturday, according to state police.

The crash happened just after 6:20 p.m. when the teen was driving south on Route 8 in Cheshire and went off the road, state police said. The 2000 Nissan Altima crashed through the brick at the east front corner of the barracks and damaged a kitchen area.

The driver and her passenger, another 17-year-old Pittsfield girl, were taken to Berkshire Medical Center to be evaluated for minor injuries, state police said. No troopers were injured during the crash.

After the two teens were examined, the driver was taken back to the barracks and charged with operating under the influence of liquor, negligent operation, speeding and a marked lanes violation, state police said. She was released on $40 bail, and her arraignment is scheduled for Tuesday in Pittsfield District Court.

The barracks are still being repaired, but the building is operational, state police said.
