Springfield’s Camp Wilder to be closed for swimming on long weekend

SPRINGFIELD — The beach at Camp Wilder will be closed for swimming until further notice due to high bacteria levels.

The Springfield Department of Health and Human Services found bacteria counts exceeded allowable levels during routine testing of water samples this week, forcing the swimming area to be closed for the long weekend, said Helen Caulton-Harris, commissioner of the department.

The city will retest the water at the beach on Parker Street Monday, she said.
