Single California ticket wins $1.765 billion Powerball jackpot on Wednesday

The $1.765 billion Powerball jackpot was finally won on Wednesday night, as the second-largest lottery jackpot in the history of the game and of U.S. lottery, according to Powerball.

The winning numbers for the drawing on Oct. 11, were 22, 24, 40, 52, 64 and Powerball: 10. A single ticket, sold in California, matched all six numbers drawn on Wednesday night.

The jackpot had not been hit since July 19, when another California winner matched all the numbers on their ticket for the $1.08 billion prize. This was the 36th drawing since that date.

The winner will choose between an annuity prize or lump sum payment. If they choose the $1.765 billion annuity prize (before taxes), they would receive one immediate payment followed by 29 annual payments that increase by 5% each. The lump sum payment is valued at an estimated $774.1 million before taxes.

In Massachusetts, there were two $50,000 winners on Wednesday, who matched the first four numbers drawn and the Powerball number on their tickets.

One bought their winning ticket in Waltham, from a gas station called Waltham Fuel. The other winner purchased their ticket in Plymouth from a package store called Manomet Liquors.

So far, in October this year, there have been at least 22 Powerball winners in Massachusetts, with two winning $1 million prizes in the drawing on Saturday, Oct. 7.

Tickets to play Powerball cost $2 each, and drawings are every Monday, Wednesday and Saturday at 10:59 p.m. Powerball can be played in 45 states, Washington D.C., Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands and drawings are held every Monday, Wednesday and Saturday.
