Showers give way to dry Thursday ahead of cooler weekend across Mass.

Early morning showers are expected to dissipate as the day goes on Thursday, eventually giving way to a warm, dry day.

Temperatures in the interior could clear 80, while Cape Cod and the Islands should remain cooler, with highs in the mid 70s. The warm and dry weather pattern continues into Friday, with daytime highs in the upper 70s, National Weather Service forecasters wrote.

A cold front is expected to move in Friday, bringing with it a pocket of colder air expected to settle in overnight. Lows will dip into the 40s, with some spots falling as low as the 30s, forecasters wrote.

The front will bring more autumn-like weather for the weekend, with highs on Saturday struggling to reach 70 in parts of Massachusetts. Low temperatures Saturday night should fall to the upper 30s in most parts of the state, forecasters wrote.

Temperatures rise again Sunday, as an area of high pressure begins moving east. A southerly to southwesterly flow, or wind, should kick in late Sunday, bringing increasing temperatures and more moisture to start the week.

“Ensembles are already indicating probabilities around 50 to 70 percent for temperatures of 80+ by Tuesday afternoon,” forecasters wrote.

Weather models are hinting at the chance for showers Wednesday, but it is too far out to know exactly where and when the rain might fall, according to the weather service.
