SOUTHWICK — Two things are certain about a citizens’ petition proposed in May 2023 to have three of the seven members of the Conservation Commission instead of elected: it was approved at Town Meeting twice with a vast majority of residents supporting it, and it wasn’t adopted in the state Senate after initially being adopted in the House.
And since then, not much is known why it died and what’s next for it, but the petition’s supporters are eager to restart the process.
“Sen. [Paul] Mark said he would be moving it along, if we need it moved along,” said Select Board member Diane Gale about the bill that made it through three readings in the House and initially adopted before being sent to the Senate where after its third reading it was pulled, and not passed.
