Raiders cut former Patriots Super Bowl winning WR

Former New England receiver Phillip Dorsett’s built-in chemistry with former Patriots quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo and coach Josh McDaniels wasn’t enough to earn him a spot on the Las Vegas Raiders 53-man roster.

The 30-year-old receiver was cut along with Keelan Cole by the Raiders on cutdown day Tuesday according to NFL Media’s Ian Rapoport who tweeted:

“The #Raiders have released WRs Keelan Cole and Phillip Dorsett, source said, and both veterans could be back on the practice squad.”

Dorsett had 73 catches for 881 yards and eight touchdowns for New England from 2017 to 2019. He didn’t have a catch in Super Bowl LIII, but had a big 29-yard touchdown in the Patriots’ AFC Championship win over the Chiefs. He has bounced around since leaving the Patriots.

He didn’t play at all in 2020, but played for Jacksonville, Seattle and Houston in 2021 and played 15 games for the Texans last year. He has 151 career catches for 2001 yards and 12 touchdowns.
