
A lucky Massachusetts State Lottery player bought a winning $250,000 Powerball ticket at a North Shore convenience store on Saturday.
The ticket was purchased at Railroad Variety on Railroad Avenue in Gloucester for $2.
Another Massachusetts lottery player bought a winning “Keno” ticket worth $100,000 on Saturday. The ticket was purchased at the Italian Progressive Club on Slade Street in Fall River.
In Powerball, players select five numbers between 1 and 69 and one Powerball number between 1 and 26. They then choose how many drawings they want to use those numbers for.
Players that match all five numbers and the Powerball number win the jackpot. They have 1 in 292,201,338 chances of winning this way.
Players that match four numbers and the Powerball number win $50,000. They have 1 in 913,129.18 chances of winning this way.
The Massachusetts player that won $250,000 through Powerball on Saturday matched four numbers and the Powerball number, but also used the game’s “Power Play” option to increase their winnings five times. Each Power Play is an extra $1.
The Powerball jackpot prize stands at $44 million as of Sunday. Powerball drawings take place every Monday, Wednesday and Saturday at 10:59 p.m.
In Keno, players select up to 12 numbers spots to play, and then choose numbers between 1 and 80 to fill each spot. Each number spot offers unique prizes and odds of winning.
Players then choose how much they want to wager on each drawing — between $1 and $20 — and how many drawings they want to use the same numbers for. The same numbers can be played in up to 30 consecutive drawings, and drawings take place every day every three minutes from 5:04 a.m. to 1:01 a.m.
Players can also multiply their prizes up to 10 times by marking the Keno Bonus. Keno Bonus is not available on the 10 spot, 11 spot or 12 spot.
Overall, at least 234 prizes worth $600 or more were won or claimed in Massachusetts on Thursday, including four in Springfield and eight in Worcester.
The Massachusetts State Lottery releases a full list of winning tickets every day. The list only includes winning tickets worth more than $600.
So far, the largest lottery prize won in Massachusetts this year was worth $1 million a year for life. The prize was from the lottery’s “Lifetime Millions” scratch ticket game. The winner claimed their prize through a trust on July 10, and opted to receive a one-time payment of $15.4 million.
