Port Summer Nights light up Harwich Port with free mid-week musical strolls

Harwich Port’s iconic Port Summer Nights kicked off last month, offering residents and visitors free live music up and down Route 28 from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.

The village’s boutiques, galleries and eateries stay open late to join the festivities, while local businesses and sponsors provide fresh popcorn and treats to enhance the evening experience.

The event is organized by the Harwich Chamber of Commerce, which this year dedicated the series to the memory of beloved Cape Cod musician and entertainer Bruce Maclean.

Chamber Director Cyndi Williams emphasized the heartfelt nature of the tribute, noting that this year’s series is bittersweet and that bands have been asked to incorporate at least one of Maclean’s favorite songs into their sets.

Every Wednesday through Aug. 27, four bands set the soundtrack for the evening, performing at locations along Route 28’s downtown corridor. The July opening featured the Fred Clayton Trio, Flat Rabbit, VB & the Buzz and Darling.

Beyond the live performances, Port Summer Nights transforms Harwich Port into a pedestrian-friendly evening destination.

Visitors can stroll through the village, shop in galleries, sit on outdoor patios, savor snacks and socialize amid the live music. The stroll format invites attendees to wander at their leisure, catching half a set here, a full set there, anywhere along the strip.

The series extends throughout August, offering a rotating lineup that balances returning community favorites and fresh musical talent. As the village hums with music and community spirit, Port Summer Nights reaffirms its place as a summer staple; an ideal hub for raising a glass, enjoying local flavor and honoring one of Harwich’s own.
