Look inside: Mass. mansion of Hollywood couple sells for record-breaking figure

A piece of Hollywood history just broke the record for Andover’s highest recorded home sale.

The Dove-Hayes estate, located at 24 Phillips St., has sold for $8.5 million — over double the previous record of $4.21 million, according to listing agent Henry Gourdeau of Gibson Sotheby’s International Realty.

The 10,500 square foot home was once owned by actor Robert Urich, who appeared in over 15 television series and films such as “Magnum Force” and “Ice Pirates” over his 30-plus year career.

Ulrich and his wife, fellow actor Heather Menzies, lived in the home between 1986 and 1991. During his time in Andover, Ulrich starred in the crime drama “Spenser: For Hire,” which was mostly filmed on location in Boston.

Built in 1890, the 10,500-square foot estate includes six bedrooms, six full bathrooms (plus four partial bathrooms), and multiple fireplaces. Other notable features include a cathedral ceilings, marble and hardwood floors, and wraparound decks.

The full property spans almost 15 acres, and boasts a guest cottage, a fire pit, a 25-yard lap pool, and an accompanying pool house.

“The record sale price and brief time on market can be attributed to a number of factors,” Gourdeau told MassLive. “The property is truly one of a kind with 15 secluded acres just minutes from downtown Andover and abutting the prestigious secondary school, Phillips Academy.”

Gourdeau added: “The stewards of this estate have done numerous renovations and upgrades over the years but always maintained the historic charm and character of the original home. The grounds are sprawling and immaculate.”

A Houston-based buyer ultimately reached out to Gourdeau directly to purchase the property.
