VENTURA COUNTY, Calif. — A deputy and his K-9 partner were injured in a vehicle crash while responding to a “suspicious person call” in Malibu, CBS News reported.

The crash occurred Dec. 16 when the cruiser collided head-on with a suspected drunk driver’s vehicle, according to the report. The cruiser veered off the Pacific Coast Highway. It then fell down a cliff face onto rocks on a small beach.

The cruiser was occupied by a deputy, identified as Castaneda, and his K-9 partner, Danny, according to a Ventura County Sheriff’s Office Facebook post. Castaneda was rescued from the car by firefighters and treated at the hospital following the incident. He is expected to recover.

K-9 Danny suffered a cut to the face but was otherwise unharmed.

The other driver was taken to the hospital for injuries before being arrested on suspicion of DUI, according to the report.
