Bishop Talbert Swan II, of Springfield, participated in two national conventions. As president of the Greater Springfield NAACP, Swan was a delegate to the NAACP national convention in Boston and offered the invocation and benediction during the Spingarn Freedom Fund Celebration on Aug. 1. As international chaplain of Iota Phi Theta Fraternity Inc., Swan attended the Iota Phi Theta International Conclave in Atlanta and was the keynote speaker at the Prayer and Praise Breakfast on July 30.
Swan is the longest serving president in the history of the Springfield chapter, now in his seventh term. He is a life member of the national NAACP. The Springfield chapter has six voting delegates and two alternates registered for the convention along with scores of other observers, attendees, and volunteers.
