FOXBOROUGH – Running back Lan Larison was making a strong case to make the Patriots 53-man roster as an undrafted rookie.
According to a source, however, Larison suffered a broken foot during Friday night’s preseason opening win over the Washington Commanders.
He was placed on IR.
ESPN first reported that Larison was scheduled to undergo surgery in the coming days for a foot injury.
According to a source, Larison finished the game, playing with the injury.
He had seven carries for 35 yards with the TD to go along with two catches for nine yards.
Following the game, Larison was clearly hobbled as he made his way to his locker.
The UC-Davis product was aiming for a roster spot behind Rhamondre Stevenson, TreVeyon Henderson and Antonio Gibson.
Per source, the Patriots signed Deneric Prince, another back, to the roster to fill in Larison’s spot. Prince was most recently a back for the Memphis Showboards of the United Football League.
Prince, who was originally signed by the Kansas City Chiefs as a rookie free agent in 2023, had played college ball at Texas A & M, and Tulsa.
In other news, safety Josh Minkins was released. The Patriots also signed rookie defensive end Jerome Robinson, who had been signed by the Chicago Bears as a rookie free agent out of Kansas.
He’s 6-foot-3, 263 pounds. He played in 53 games during his college career at Kansas, finishing with 98 tackles and 14 sacks.
