A Heat Advisory remains in place for Massachusetts as forecasters continue to warn of intense heat and humidity, which is expected to peak on Tuesday.
High temperatures in the state’s three largest cities are expected to clear 95 on Tuesday, with Boston and Springfield forecasted to reach 98, and Worcester’s projected high at 97. Humidity will make it feel even warmer than that, with heat indices, or “feels-like” temperatures, crossing 100 in all three cities and across much of Massachusetts.
“Take extra precautions when outside,“ the advisory warns. ”Wear lightweight and loose-fitting clothing. Try to limit strenuous activities to early morning or evening. Take action when you see symptoms of heat exhaustion and heat stroke.”
While the advisory is in place until 8 p.m. Wednesday, it shouldn’t be nearly as hot and humid. A cold front is expected to approach from the west, likely triggering some thunderstorms.
Relief should arrive on Thursday, with highs closer to 80. But forecasters expect widespread rainfall.
“While exact timing and location of storm formation is still up in the air, confidence is increasing in seeing high rainfall totals Thursday,” forecasters wrote.
By Friday, the showers are expected to have moved out of the state, clearing the way for a cooler and drier airmass to settle in. Temperatures could fall below normal levels for early August, reaching the mid-70s.
Another high-pressure system is set to move in ahead of the weekend, bringing a return to seasonal temperatures.
