Parking fee, park ranger proposed to reopen Southwick conservation parcel

SOUTHWICK — During the first meeting of the North Pond Conservation Area task force on Tuesday, the group discussed various ways to reduce the overuse of the property including addressing parking issues, signage, and the possibility of drafting a new bylaw to establish enforceable rules on the property.

“It solves the problem,” said Fire Chief Richard Stefanowicz referring to the property’s parking lot that fronts South Longyard Road. “Restricting parking is the key.”

Stefanowicz made that observation after Select Board member Diane Gale, who is leading the task force, proposed several changes to the parking area that serves the 61-acre property off South Longyard Road.
